The overall story of this book is that there is a baby bunny named Hopper and his Mother. They are going through the forest during winter as the snow falls gracefully upon the ground. Hopper does not want to go and look for food with his Mom like she requested but she tells him, "Do not be lazy...". I think that this thought of working hard to get the things you need such as food is really important. This concept is really good for younger students to understand, so this book would be great to either have in your library or have as an option for a literature analysis. The characters in this book are very simple yet the author really gets their personalities across. The Mother bunny is very caring and gentle while Hopper is very much a young happy bunny who wants to hang out with his buddies.
This book would be a great addition to any Elementary class library. Many of the children that I have seen read this book are very interested and engaged in the reading process. The illustrations are one of their favorite parts of the book also. With so many new age books out there in the world of children's literature this is a nice classic book with valuable moral investigation!
This looks like a really cute book! I always like children's books with good illustrations, and those look like they'd be really entertaining. I also like books that teach a good lesson, such as working hard. That's something that a lot of kids aren't being taught today, because both they and their parents are having everyone hand them everything they need, for free. I think this would be a really good choice for the little kids to learn this value at a young age.
ReplyDeleteAmanda,
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this book, but it sounds like it’s a really good one. You are right, the illustrations are beautiful. I also think this book has a great storyline; that you have to work hard in order to get the things you want or need. This is a very good moral to teach young children. One of the things that I would do in my class after reading this book is maybe have the kids write in there journals about a time where they had to work very hard to get something that they really wanted. This would allow the kids to really think and it would also be fun for the teacher to read what the kids come up with.
The fact, alone, that the illustrations are watercolor makes me want to check out this book! You are right, this book would be great to show a class what hard work is and that everyone must play a part.
ReplyDeleteThis book captures my interests by the pictures alone. They are amazing and quite detailed. I would love to use this book for an art lesson. I like that you focus on the author in your book talk as well because it's always important to give them credit. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures in this book. I feel it would do a fantastic job catching the attention of younger students. I don't know if I would use this book in a middle school classroom though unless it were for the purpose of reading to other students. Great book though. I remember reading this book and enjoying it when I was young.
ReplyDeleteThis is the perfect book for a kindergarten classroom, it is simple, yet has an important message. The water colors are really beautiful too.
